Happy December from The Sunshine House
What a year 2016 has been! As our children and staff have much to be thankful for, please know that we count our supporters as some of our biggest blessings. Thank you for the many ways that your families have encouraged, supported, and loved us from afar. Below, we share some Sunshine House happenings over the past month in Cochabamba.
It’s with great joy that we share the news of Ana Maria’s adoption! A local pastor and his wife welcomed Ana Maria into their family this month. Ana Maria joins an older brother and a sister who is 9 years old and also adopted, just like Ana Maria. The church where Ana Maria’s family attends is also attended by members of the Sunshine House staff. While we will certainly miss Ana’s giant grin and servant heart around the house, we will be excited to get to keep in close contact with Ana Maria and her family.
End of the School Year
At the end of November the Bolivian school year ends, and summer vacation begins. To celebrate, many of our kids’ classrooms participated in an end-of-the-year program with traditional Bolivian costumes and dances.

During the school break, one of our 4-year-olds, Sandra, has moved to another home in the city to be reunited with her two older biological brothers. These three clearly remembered each other, and we try to keep families together whenever possible. With Sandra’s move, her baby biological brother, Benjamin, will stay with us at The Sunshine House until he is old enough to be accepted at the new home with his three siblings. We will look forward to a day when all four of these brothers and sisters can live together, and we are thankful for being able to take care of Sandra and Benjamin for a season.
At the end of the month, volunteers graciously took care of our
children for a day as all of our caregivers, (tias,) and administration had a training workshop. There, caregivers, office staff, and board members explored different focus points, including:
-investing in the spiritual life of our children and staff members through regular devotions and Bible reading
-child development/special needs
It was a gift to be able to have a day to learn, discuss care, and enjoy time together as Sunshine House staff.
Happy Birthday to Anahi! (4) We celebrated with a Frozen-themed party for this princess, who is never hesitant to try and keep the Sunshine House babies in line. 🙂
Happy Birthday to our oldest Sunshine House child, Shyrlen! (11) (In this picture, Benito helps complete the Bolivian tradition of pushing the birthday kid’s face into the cake!) We are so proud of Shyrlen for working hard in school this year and recently learning to ride a 2-wheeler bike! Go Shyrl!
Happy Birthday to Tia Silvia, who we also celebrated last month.
We leave you with a picture of our growing twins, Jose and Josue, in their Christmas PJs!
As Christmas is around the corner, we ask that you keep The Sunshine House in mind. The end of the year includes government-mandated extra salaries for our hard-working staff and Christmas celebrations for kids/staff, in addition to our regular budget. Thank you, as always, for blessing us in countless ways!
